Got there millions of years before Benjamin Franklin.

The larva of the sunburst diving beetle has been using bifocal lenses to chase down its prey for millions of years. We humans are just catching up.

Better yet, while we can only look through one part of the lens (close-up or distance) at a time, the beetle can do both at once.
