Circus Owners Charged with Cruelty
Remember Annie the elephant, who was freed from a U.K. circus last April? The owners of the circus have now been charged with animal cruelty.
Following an outpouring of public anger when video was published of the shocking abuse she suffered at the Bobby Roberts Super Circus, Annie, who is about 58 years old, was taken to the Longleat Safari Park, where she’s been enjoying a whole new life.
Yesterday, the Crown Prosecution Service (equivalent to the District Attorney’s office) announced it had decided there was enough evidence to pursue the case against Roberts, 68, and his wife, 62, itself. They have been charged with causing Annie suffering by chaining her to the floor, failing to prevent her groom from beating her and failing to ensure her needs were met.
