Latest Reports on Bird Flu
I happened upon a website called The Poultry Site, which describes itself as a “portal for the global poultry industry.” Its news section includes a Guide to Avian Flu, where you can “catch up with the latest bird flu news from across the globe.”
There are approximately 40 reports for the last month alone. Summaries from just the last few days include:
- Nepal: Capital Faces Peril of Bird Flu
- Bangladesh: Veterinary authorities have reported a total of ten highly pathogenic avian influenza outbreaks across various commercial poultry farms
- Netherlands: The cause of the latest outbreak of low–pathogenic avian influenza in turkeys has been identified as the H5N2 subtype
- Taiwan: Veterinary authorities have reported further cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza
- India: Veterinary authorities have reported another outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza at a government-run poultry farm in the state of Tripura
- Israel: Veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Hadarom
- South Africa: Veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Southern Cape Province
- Israel: Senior Ministry of Agriculture officials admit that the outbreak of bird flu last week at Moshav Shalva and Kibbutz Hulit has found that the ministry is unprepared to deal with the disease on a massive scale
- Global: Hong Kong’s chief Veterinary Officer has reported the death of a wild bird from H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza. The H5N1 infected wild birds and goose carcasses from unknown sources were detected in ongoing surveillance program on wild birds.
