How Dogs Have Saved an L.A. Neighborhood
In downtown L.A., pet-friendly policies have revitalized entire neighborhoods. In The Atlantic, Marissa Gluck writes:
Walking dogs drove residents out of their homes and into the street at least twice each day. Elsewhere in Los Angeles, where single-family homes predominate, dog owners often have the luxury of sending Fido out to the yard to do his business. But downtown, dogs and their owners have become a crucial component of the rebounding neighborhood’s culture.
Dogs help people interact with their neighbors. They bring the community closer. And the influx of people with dogs has helped create community spaces.
In one example, residents converted an empty lot into the Arts District’s Saslow Dog Park.
As one downtown developer puts it: “Happy animals mean happy humans.”
