When the sun sneezed on Tuesday, it was big. In this case, more than a billion tons of material were blown out, and the plume was as big as the sun itself.
Fortunately the sneeze wasn’t aimed at Earth. But the solar cycle is said to be heating up, and a solar flare can be like several billions of atomic bombs exploding at once.
