Welcome Home from War!
In Homer’s Odyssey, Argos the dog waits … and waits … and waits for 20 years for his person, Odysseus, to come home from the Trojan War. Unable even to stand up any longer, he refuses to take his last breath until he’s been reunited. And even though Odysseus returns in disguise, Argos instantly recognizes him, crawls into his lap, and dies.
There’s nothing sad, however, in this compendium of homecomings, shown on ABC News. Our colleague Marc Bekoff is on hand, too, to talk about the emotions of dogs.
