Bill Clinton Goes (Mostly) Vegan
Former President Bill Clinton says he’s switched to a mostly plant-based diet with no meat and no dairy. Occasionally, he admitted, he eats some fish.
“I live on beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit,” Clinton explained to Wolf Blitzer on CNN. “I drink a protein supplement every morning – no dairy, I drink almond milk mixed in with fruit and a protein powder so I get the protein for the day when I start the day up.”
After a quadruple heart bypass and, recently, a stent implant, Clinton said he’d been impressed by studies that show that more than four out of five people who keep to a plant-based diet are rewarded with a dramatic reduction in arterial blockages, cholesterol levels and coronary calcium deposits.
Clinton’s comments spurred a wave of media exposure about the benefits of a plant-based diet, including a London Daily Telegraph article featuring three doctors whose research Clinton cited.
